Expressions India is a school based outreach program for promotion of Life Skills, Values Education, School Health & Wellbeing, existent for over twelve years now. The program has aspired for over a decade to develop and nurture a supportive environment in schools conducive for promotion of life skills as abilities for positive and adaptive behaviours.

Expressions India : Click to EnlargeExpressions India introduced the Annual Adolescent Peer Educators' Leadership Course with a focus on promotion of Life Skills, Values Education, Attitudes, Health & Wellbeing of an Adolescent. This program comes in tandem with the CBSE comprehensive school health initiatives, and has renowned national & international adolescent health experts to facilitate the students' march towards awareness, responsibility and empowerment. It is a country wide training program organized in 15 cities of India, with the participation of more than 2000 students yearly. The aim of these Peer led workshops has been a pioneering effort over years to provide a clear understanding of Gender Sensitization in Schools, Adolescent Health & Development, Exploring the Scientific Understanding of 'Life Skills Education', Managing Anger, Loss & Sadness & Stress Management, Adolescent Reproductive & Sexual Health (ARSH) & Preventing Substance Abuse, Family Bonding & Communication for the Adolescents.

On a regulator basis around 1500 Child and Adolescent centered sensitization workshops, training programs and community seminars for the principals / vice principals / counselors / teachers / school doctors / nurses / professional and other staff members of the schools have been organized by Expressions India till yet. Many of these training programs & workshops were organized under the aegis of Central Board of Secondary Education, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and other governmental organization.

Such programs were based on Life Skills, Values Education, Mental Health & Wellbeing of Adolescent, Gender Sensitization, Safety & Security and Counseling etc. Expressions India also provided technical support for The Adolescence Education Programme implemented by CBSE under the directive of MHRD since 2005. NCERT was the co-ordinating agency with CBSE, KVS, NVS and NIOS as the implementing agencies. Training of Master Trainers on School Based Adolescent Education Program was carried out by Expression India from 2005- 2010. "Indian Journal of School Health and Wellbeing" was launched under the technical expertise of Expressions India.

In March 2011, first School Counselors' Conclave was organised by Expressions India which was keenly attended by more than 80 school counselors and allied professionals. The idea for Association of Indian School Counselors and Allied Professionals (AISCA) took birth at this platform as it was felt that school counseling programs need to be made an integral part of student's daily educational environment and school counselors should be partners in student achievement and overall development. AISCAP is thus an endeavor of likeminded professionals to provide a forum that seeks to empower, support and streamline the school counselors & allied professionals in their role to effectively promote Child and Adolescent Wellbeing in an Inclusive Environment. Under the leadership of Expressions India, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Annual National conference of AISCSP was organized on the themes; Best Practices in School Guidance and Counseling Services : Emerging Roles, Responsibilities and Recommendations; Evolving Landscape of School Mental Health in India" Emerging Needs Emerging Solutions and The Art & Science of New age Parenting & Innovative Practices in School Mental Health Promotion - The Charm, Challenges & the Culture of Wellbeing, respectively. AISCAP the counselors forum of Expressions India, was initially formed with 10 core members at its inception and today it has grown with over 300 members across the nation.

AISCAP was Launched on 18th August 2011 with the following aims and objectives:

To help school counselors design and implement programs that meet the National Standards and establish school counseling as an integral part of the academic mission of their schools.
To move towards developing the National Standards for the school counseling profession to implement the goals deemed important by the profession, to promote its mission in educational reform and to ensure that all students have access to comprehensive school counseling programs as a part of their learning experience.

For empowering school going adolescents, Expressions India started pioneering endeavour International Young Film Makers' Festival (IYFMF) being organized since 2010. An enthusiastic participation of a large number of schools from all over the country was seen in the last four years. Upholding the suggestions and opinions from the adolescent 'Peer Educators' who have been a part of the regular Life Skills training courses, the theme of the event is "Innovative Life Skills & Values for Social Change". The festival focuses on the issues, concerns and empowerment of children and their rights. The Objective of this festival is to encourage young creative minds in schools to come up and utilize the audiovisual technology; short films to convey meaningful social messages to the civil society, programmers & policy makers, portraying major issues of national concern, thereby enhancing the application of Life Skills & Values Education in schools. It is a growing opportunity to appreciate the impact of films as a medium to transform thoughts and emotions of the future nation builders.

Under the aegis of CBSE, Expressions India also organized the pioneering, International Life Skills, Values, Gender, School Health & Wellbeing Summit in 2012 & 2013, with participation of over 2000 adolescents in each of these summits from India & Dubai. The aim of CBSE International Life Skills Values, Gender, School Health & Wellbeing Summit was to develop a sense of self-confidence, sensitivity and awareness towards various issues and concerns such as - gender, environment, health and wellbeing in the learners. In both the summit student's charter was also introduced with the help of the participating students.
